At least 33 people will be tried this week in #Belarus for participating in the 2020 protests against the criminal regime. Meanwhile, detentions continue & repression shows no sign of slowing down. We must continue to fight for the life & freedom of every political prisoner.

Belarusians have repeatedly shown that they do not support Putin & Lukashenka’s war against #Ukraine. It’s not the people of #Belarus who back this aggression—it’s the unlawful regime. A free Belarus will be a powerful ally to 🇺🇦 & the strongest possible sanction against Putin.

Release from prison is no guarantee of freedom in #Belarus. Many political prisoners are re-arrested shortly after release or held indefinitely on arbitrary charges. While a few are freed, even more are detained every day. All who are wrongfully imprisoned must be released!

Since 2020, #Belarus human rights defenders have recognized nearly 3,500 people as political prisoners. According to Viasna, at least 1,372 remain behind bars & the number of trials continues to rise. We must not let them be forgotten—every political prisoner deserves freedom.

Today one of our great heroes, Maksim Znak, spends another birthday behind bars. Maksim embodies a rare blend of warmth, compassion & unshakable resolve. He sacrificed his freedom in the hope that one day, all Belarusians will live free. We will not stop fighting for his release.

I am grateful to Juliette Binoche, Pedro Almodóvar, Wim Wenders, Ken Loach & many others for joining the campaign to prevent the extradition of filmmaker Andrey Gnyot to #Belarus, where he faces the risk of imprisonment & torture by the criminal regime. belfilmacademy.com/en/news/202408…

I am relieved that 30 more political prisoners in #Belarus have been pardoned. They are all innocent. However, repression continues to escalate & more than 1,400 remain imprisoned on political grounds. We need sustained international pressure to secure the freedom of all of them.

Political prisoner Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk’s health has deteriorated severely. Despite suffering from a serious disease that requires constant medical care, she is kept in inhumane conditions—amounting to a suspended death sentence. We need urgent action to save her life.

Just now, Belarusian monitoring group Belarusian Hajun project shared a video of one of two Russian Shahed drones downed tonight in the south of Belarus. The safety of Belarusians has been collateral damage in Lukashenka’s backing of Putin’s war in Ukraine.

When we stand together, we can tear down the walls of dictatorship & build a future of freedom for our people. I call on our European partners to see that #Belarus is more than just a criminal regime—it is a nation of hope, courage & potential. Most importantly, we are Europeans.

Kseniya Susha faces up to 12 years in prison. When you hear "12 years," you probably think of violent crimes. But all Kseniya did was condemn the dictatorial regime in Belarus and support political prisoners by sending them parcels or money transfers.

Several Russian 'stray' drones were shot down in #Belarus last night. The war is increasingly felt as these incursions happen more often. This isn’t random; it’s systematic. Even the regime’s propaganda can’t hide it anymore. The war is creeping into Belarus & we must stop it.

At least 3 acts of vandalism against Belarusian sites in Vilnius in just a few days: windows smashed or hit by gunfire. I believe Lukashenka’s regime is behind this, aiming to create fear & division between Belarusians & Lithuanians. I trust that 🇱🇹 will punish those responsible.

It’s heartwarming to see how Belarusians are helping each other. I visited the Dapamoga NGO's 'Zamak' shelter in Vilnius, which has become a home for many Belarusians forced into exile. The atmosphere of friendship & coziness is a beautiful reminder of Belarusian solidarity🤍❤️🤍
