Finally! The largest Norwegian-led field research campaign this #Antarctica summer season, on the #Fimbulisen Ice Shelf, is building the hot-water-drill the next days, preparing for scientific operations at the first drill site.

As part of #TrollObservingNetwork our oceanographers are on their way to Fimbulisen to drill through the 400 meters ice and install sensors to measure properties above, in and under the ice sheet.

The Norwegian Government has decided to build a new Troll research station in #Antarctica . The new station will be ready in 2030 and will enable us to take full advantage of @TrollObservingNetwork.

This new article showed that extreme snowstorms lead to large-scale seabird breeding failures in Antarctica.
