Too many people these days feel like the only time to get any real work done is before 9 am or after 5 pm, because the rest of their day is consumed by endless meetings. The key to more productive collaboration: fewer, but higher-quality interactions. mckinsey.com/business-funct…

If there's anything the past two years have taught us, it's how our perception of reality is shaped by the metrics we choose to focus on. While reality is always infinitely more complex and multi-faceted. This is not a political statement, just something to be acutely aware of.

I remember growing up with the label "breaking news" being reserved for cataclysmic events like 9/11. Now life has become an infinite stream of breaking news, with every micro-event being added to a never-ending live blog. Seeing the bigger picture has become harder than ever.

Amsterdam SAIL got cancelled during the pandemic, meaning there will be a 10-year gap between the previous and the next edition. Although I have never been a big-crowd person myself, it would be great to be able to witness such scenes again post-pandemic.

Book tip: "Four thousand weeks" by Oliver Burkeman Favorite quote: “The world is bursting with wonder, yet it’s the rare productivity guru who seems to have considered the possibility that the ultimate point of all our frenetic doing might be to experience more of that wonder”

Netflix tip from someone who is not a huge Netflix fan: for those who have been deterred by the general bleakness of Black Mirror, "San Junipero" (S3:E4) remains one of my favorite love stories of all time. It's infinitely rewatchable, and not because the algorithms want you to.

You get the sense that people who bash each other's brains on here would get on quite well if they sat down in person for a coffee. It actually seems like a useful self-censoring mechanism before tweeting: would I feel comfortable saying this face to face?

Longing for the next phase of digital transformation where two-factor authentication doesn't require me to go into another room ten times a day to pick up a smartphone that I like to physically separate myself from as much as possible.

The Before Sunrise - Before Sunset - Before Midnight trilogy with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy only gets better as you transition through different phases in life yourself. It's beautiful when art both reflects and foreshadows life, taking on new meaning every time you watch it.

I can't see the term "hybrid work" sticking around for long. No one thinks of themselves as "hybrid shoppers" because they sometimes buy stuff online while visiting a brick-and-mortar store on other occasions. Switching between the physical and digital is just life in 2022.

This was a beautiful movie. Don't read anything about it. Just watch it. Be patient with it. Let it unfold, even if it seems aimless or even boring in the moment. Then reflect on what it meant when it's over. I can't stop thinking about it.
