This Sarcophagus from the stunning The Cleveland Museum of Art collection tells the story of Orestes. He is shown in the centre standing over the body of his mother, Clytemnestra, who he killed to avenge the death of his father Agamemnon. The Sarcophagus dates to AD100-125.

April 13th marks the Temple of Jupiter Victor's anniversary in Ancient Rome, on Capitoline Hill. Surrounding it was the Area Capitolina, adorned with shrines and trophies. At Trimontium, a 2nd-century AD altar to Jupiter (IOM) was found, symbolizing divine protection.

Gnaeus Pompeius (Pompey the Younger), son of Pompey the Great was killed on 12th April 45BC. He and his brother, Sextus had joined in the fight against Julius Caesar, after their father had been murdered in Egypt the year before. He was around 30 years old.

Apr 11 AD145 SeptimiusSeverus was born in Leptis Magna. The 1st African Emperor from 192 until his death in Eboracum (York) in 211. He used Trimontium as a camp during his Caledonian campaign, 208-11. After his death his sons Caracalla & Geta became joint emperors.
