Fitting we're wrapping up an ACTIVE December with more active weather. 2 rounds of snow on the 31st followed by reinforcing shots of cold the first couple days of January

Mid-Season check-in! 5.8" in November and 15.1" in December has us about 4" above the norm and our forecast released months ago. Like I've been saying, January is the wildcard. This active pattern *should* taper late month but we'll have to see what that process brings us...

Best part of this month? days are getting longer!!! Also, 42" of snow in a month would be AMAZING, as long as February was 80º hahaha

Pretty solid week... warmer, no doubt but there are some rain showers. Tuesday looks soggy, Friday into Saturday looks soaked. Christmas lights coming down today? Washing the car? Find any excuse to get outside before winter comes back next week.

Alright all you number-lovers! Ready for some data?! There are no records before 1973, there were no satellites to monitor the lakes before then. My takeaways: Ice on Lake Erie is widely variable. The cold has been developing later in recent decades but still catching up.

Warm but windy & wet this morning. Gusts already hitting 50mph. We dry out midday, winds shift and temps dive this afternoon... Winter is coming back!

Quite the week... Starts good but winter comes back QUICK on Wednesday bringing cold and several shots at snow. Most of us are breaking out the shovels again this week.

There's a lot of talk about the thundersnow over the weekend. If you've ever wondered why we get so much less lightning in winter than in summer... It's because of the lack of heat. You need heat to build those clouds upward. The height is what allows the seperation needed.

You ever wonder why I don't get all excited about long term snowfall forecasts... it's called experience. This isn't a model. It's my forecast. I drew it. This is through Wednesday. More to come Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tue...

Made a couple minor tweaks... The arrival of the cold is a bit delayed making it a more drastic drop. Which also means the bursts could be heavier. I've bumped the totals up a bit for today.

Rain changing to snow this afternoon... it's a QUICK transition as temps take a dive. Plan for snow covered roads and a very slow commute.

We've transitioned from widespread "synoptic" snow to lake effect snow. That means less of us see it but it keeps piling up where squalls persist.
