First AC-DC (Astronomy, Coffee, Discussion, and Cake) meeting for my little research group of three Ph.D. students. Last Friday of the month I will get them free coffee and cake from the local cafe as we chat about all things astronomy and career questions. Astronomía y Ciencias Planetarias Universidad de Atacama
At ESO La Silla, training two of my students on the Danish telescope, Maria Romero and Valeska Molina. Sadly this is a super busy month for me, so I'm only here for three nights, while they get to spend 14 nights here... Down and out of action due to flu and bronchitis 😔. But my student Anitha Raj who is doing an ESO studentship was able to meet the Chilean president Gabriel Boric Font while he was visiting ESO Garching.
PCR test came back clear 🥳. I'm flying to Padova Italy today for the European Astronomical Society 2024 conference, then a quick stop over back home (London, Bournemouth, Torquay, Morecambe, then Glasgow) to see family and give a talk at Imperial about satellite interference with Mike Peel
Fantastic news! My student Maria Romero has just been quoted in a Nature article on Satellites are photobombing astronomy data — could AI offer a solution? nature.com/articles/d4158…
