A1: For personalized learning, learners need to have an understanding of themselves—their strengths, weaknesses, how they learn best, what hinders their learning. Learners also need to understand that mistakes and failures are the stepping stones to later success. #MasonEdChat

A2: developing students’ capacity to inquire starts with Ts modeling for Ss their own inquiries, and then giving them authentic opportunities for students to make their own inquiries. #MasonEdChat

A3: Voice is everything and it starts with creating a safe environment for sharing. Once that’s established students will feel more encouraged to share their thoughts and inquiries. Time is set apart each day for students step up as leaders and share. #MasonEdChat

We used the Marshmallow Challenge today to challenge the students in their understanding of what learning looks like. Mrs. Dicks and I were blown away by visuals the learners later created to describe their “learning pits.” #teamgrit #MasonMoment

The learners made their own identity webs today to represent who they are. We then took time to walk around and appreciate all the different identities in the room. The kids were surprised by some similarities they had with classmates! ❤️🥰 #buildingcommunity #teamgrit

On Friday, the learners decided ways they could demonstrate their understanding of compromise. Today they chose a pathway that worked best for them. Each student was engaged in a unique way. Jason dreams of designing video games concepts and got to show off his artistic ability!

We are juuuuust starting our Curiousity Research Projects for our Nonfiction Unit, and I am already blown away by the topics some researchers are choosing. Teaser: one curious mind is researching straw alternatives that are good for everyone—and the environment! 😮👏

"4th graders are capable of so much more than we sometimes give them credit for. We have seen a side of them that was not always clear to us because sometimes it was overshadowed by extrinsic motivations or rewards." bit.ly/2AWi3jI #education #edchat
