Snow buntings have returned to the Toolik area, with sightings every day this week since Sunday! Though we're still a bit away from spring break-up, we're celebrating the strengthening sun & the arrival of these springtime heralds. 📷 Abby Jackson uaf.edu/toolik/edc/jou…

The first siksrik of the year has emerged from hibernation at Toolik! The Toolik ground squirrel population usually wakes a little later than those closer to the Brooks Range. Welcome back to the station, ground squirrel. uaf.edu/toolik/edc/jou… 📸 Mayra Meléndez González

Excited to see our work help the new BBC series "Mammals" showcase some of the amazing life of a wolverine. We've worked for almost a decade to help ensure the conservation of this species. Toolik Field Station WCS @JonathanSlaght bbc.co.uk/programmes/art…

Is it spring? Cold first day up at Toolik with highs near 15 and lows below 0f. Despite the cold it is beautiful with bluebird skies. Not to be out shown the mountains a radiant with alpine glow in the evening and the ptarmigan flicks are getting ever bigger.

Still alot of snow to move up at Toolik Field Station in order to welcome the researchers who are migrating north along with the birds. Joe is knocking down this pile to make room for more snow piles. The dozer might look small in the photo but it is a large normal sized dozer.

While out monitoring plants today near Toolik Field Station I heard what could only be described as a bird mimicking a grasshopper. I knew there must be a bluethroat around but I did not have my binoculars. I went back and I found a handful of handsome bluethroat singing away in some willows.
