It's hard not to cheer for the Detroit Lions during their playoff run. It helps to realize that the last time the Lions won the title ('57) two Colorado State Football legends anchored the defense. Jim David had 3 picks that year, while Jack Christiansen had an amazing 10. (1)

Jack Christiansen is on the Colorado State University Mount Rushmore - the only Ram in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and he's also in the CSU and Colorado sports halls. Fum McGraw, another Ram legend, won 2 titles with the Lions before a knee injury ended his career in '54.

So sad to hear of the passing of Hal Kinard. He was a legendary PE teacher at the “old” Lincoln Jr. High and coaches basketball. He was a tireless advocate for kids from disadvantaged backgrounds. It wasn’t until later that I learned he was a standout player for Colorado State Men’s Basketball.

When Hal found out that I was going to work as a sports writer for The Coloradoan he was so danged proud. Funny thing is, I never addressed any of the coaches I covered as “coach.” But Hal, who was never my coach, was different. RIP to the only man I called “coach.”

The #Browns announced that LB Christian Kirksey and WR Rashard Higgins are retiring from the NFL and both players will sign one-day contracts with the organization to make it official.

It probably won’t happen but Colorado State Men’s Basketball Niko Medved should win Mountain West Coach of the Year. Before Christmas the Rams were a mess going nowhere fast. Today they’re in 2nd place. Yes, the leaguenis down a bit but this has gotta be Niko’s best coaching job. Colorado State Rams 🐏
