Disclaimer: Take the following post with a grain of 'rock salt'! 😁 The start of winter is now in range of the CFS. On its latest run, the model is calling for below normal temps and above normal precip for the Mid Atlantic in December. 👇 Translation: If this verifies, it might

Today will be a warm day (80s) for Baltimore, but overall, we are still running 2.7 degrees below normal for September (BWI). Don't expect any long stretches of warm or cool weather for the rest of the month. In other words, 'normal' September temps. 🙂 We have had 2.57" of rain

Autumnal Equinox: 2:19 PM EDT Monday. Why do we even have seasons? (I heard you ask 🙂) Because the Earth is tilted on its axis by 23.5 degrees. 👇 Sometimes we are leaning towards the Sun, and sometimes away. The Northern Hemisphere is starting to tilt away now as we head

That Olde East Wind. The showers across parts of MD will dissipate later today. But an ENE wind will pick up tonight and spread a 'Marine' air mass across the Baltimore Metro. 👇 It will likely become cloudy overnight, and those clouds will stick around into Sunday. Could even be

A first for me! We just streamed the 6 PM newscast live on the Very Local App. Yes, we stream on the WBAL website all the time, but this was on the Very Local App. I feel like I jumped into the 'millennial' age! 😁 What? You don't have the app? Get it! That's what all the cool

Jellyfish in the Bay? I didn't know that! 👇 Well, according to the Maryland DNR, jellyfish don't like the rain. They're not going to like the forecast this week! 😁 Stay tuned...

It's going to be an active weather week in MD. The Euro AIFS forecasting 1" - 2" of rain across the area by Sunday next weekend. 👇 It won't come all at once though. It will be spread out over several days. However, if you're going to the Raven's Game for Monday Night Football,

The Autumnal Equinox is at 2:19 PM EDT today. Notice on this full disk satellite image from this morning the terminator line (day/night) runs from pole to pole. 👇 You would think we would have an equal 12 hours of day and night, right? Not exactly true here in Baltimore. Today

What makes the leaves change colors? I'm glad you asked on this first day of Autumn! 🙂 The two main drivers are shorter days/longer nights and changes in temperature. 👇 The peak color around Baltimore is usually Mid-Late October, but there's some change out there already!

As I write this post at 2:19 PM EDT, the direct rays of the Sun are on the Equator. That means by 2:20 PM EDT we will have started the slow walk into Winter. All Aboard!! 😁❄️🚂

Snowliage!? The CFS thinks I’ll be chasing snow in October! ❄️🍁 I usually do get an opportunity to see some snow in October, but the 9th seems pretty early. 🤔 The last 5 years my first snow chase has been October 18-22. And FYI Tony Pann double dog dared me to post this!

Big Boomers rolling through parts of the Baltimore Metro this evening! They should move through by 8 PM in most areas. Brief periods of heavy rain possible. 👇

Fujiwhara Effect? It's when two tropical systems kind of 'circle' each other. Modeling has been very consistent in developing two tropical systems off the SE Coast by early next week. 👇 Nothing for sure this far out of course, but something to watch. Stay tuned...

Tropical Storm Humberto has formed in the Atlantic, and another (Imelda) might form near it tomorrow. The latest run of the Euro Ens is showing a 10-20% chance of Tropical Storm conditions reaching parts of MD early next week. 👇 The probability is closer 50% in the Carolinas.
