This was a really tough moment. Gutted to lose two seats but relieved that the campaigning paid off and Galloway’s promise of winning 9 proved to be as hollow as his commitment to Rochdale.

A disastrous result for the Conservatives and Lib Dems - with their votes melting, and people switching straight to Labour - and a complete failure for George Galloway who predicted he’d ‘remove 9 Labour Cllrs’ here in Rochdale borough!

In March, Galloway said he would remove 9 Labour councillors. Today, he won just 2. And Labour gained 1 from an independent.
