On this day four years ago: we lost Christopher #Tolkien at the age of 95. He edited around two-dozen books of his father's works, and brought us much of what we now know about Middle-earth for which we are all incredibly grateful. He is missed. Namárië.

On 6 January 1992: Sauron Defeated in published. Comprising the ninth volume of The History of Middle-earth series edited by Christopher Tolkien, the book covers the final part of The Lord of the Rings, as well as the Fall of Númenor and the Notion Club Papers. #Tolkien #lotr

On 5 January 1998: J.R.R. #Tolkien 's children's story, Roverandom, is published. Completely unrelated to Middle-earth, it tells of a dog, Rover, who goes on a journey to the Moon and the bottom of the Deep Blue Sea. An enchanting story for children!

On 25 December 1943: Father Christmas writes his last letter to Priscilla #Tolkien . He says as they've grown up he will no longer write to them, but says he will never forget them. Merry Christmas!

On 22 December 1920: Father Christmas sends the first letter to the #Tolkien children. Every year Father Christmas sent a letter to the children detailing his activities and adventures, often involving the North Polar Bear. We also learn of goblins, elves and 'Ilbereth'!
