When your lek is covered in a couple of feet of snow & you have to dance, the next best dance floor is the road. Sharp-tailed grouse dancing & welcoming Spring! #grouse #lek #dancing #spring #snow #montana #prairie

Year 4! Another green year ahead of us? Record snowfall has filled shallow, seasonal wetlands and provided moisture to spark growth in cool season grasses. Given the polarity of moisture the past few years, I’m excited to see what this last field season has in store.

Thanks for coming out and spending some time in the field with us! We’re lucky to have research partners like you! Looking forward to getting in the field and seeing what this summer has in store for us.

Our forth and final summer field season is off to a great start! Prairie conditions have been favorable, with warm temps and “normal” precipitation. Photos: GADW, CCSP, VESP, and the northern lights. We’re approaching the halfway point and I’m already starting to miss this place.

Had a blast this past week out wandering in North Dakota’s prairies. Can’t believe we’re already through the field season and summer (Gadwall nest, Clay-colored Sparrow nest, Black-eyed Susan’s patch, and Common Harebell patch). Many thanks go out to our cooperating landowners!
