#CycloneMocha devastated coastal communities in Myanmar's Rakhine State, destroying homes, infrastructure and livelihoods. UN Development is helping on the road to recovery, and so far we have reached more than 60,000 people.

Now UN Development is distributing a variety of seeds across Rakhine State, reaching more than 35,000 people so far, enabling them to grow fruits and vegetables in their home gardens ahead of the monsoon season. We are already purchasing equipment to help fishers.

UN Development has helped provide clean drinking water to nearly 2,500 people, including through drilling new boreholes and cleaning contaminated wells. These are community structures that will continue to provide people with safe water for the long term.
Livelihoods lost, shelter destroyed, food in short supply, water contaminated. People already desperately poor have been hit hard. Will take years for them to recover. UNDP teams working where they can. But need to be able to reach more.

Sittwe is littered with uprooted trees and rubble since #CycloneMocha made landfall. The city cannot function, and people cannot access services or run their businesses until they are removed. UN Development is now clearing away the debris - a vital early step in recovery.
900km2 of cropland flooded. Likely huge impact on food availability, water quality, and livelihoods. UNDP responding and also looking at impact on economy, vulnerability and poverty. Numbers of poor were high and will be higher.
