"Research conducted among members shows - at best - 2/3 of participants have engaged online, leading to the exclusion of at least an estimated 250,000 people across the nation who would usually engage actively in music." 🗣️🎵 Oliver Dowden Department for Culture, Media and Sport makingmusic.org.uk/news/roadmap-o…
A totally illogical/unfair restriction by Department for Culture, Media and Sport Oliver Dowden on professional choir leaders / conductors and millions of non-professional singers/musicians. How about a new sport...”Choir Rugby” or “Footy Choir” just so my choir can sing again 🎤 ⚽️ 🎤 🏉
Hope you get an explanation. I asked Department for Culture, Media and Sport Oliver Dowden and they didn’t actually answer the question “why?”...just quoted the rule at me 🙄 😡

There is no mention of choirs in SAGE minutes since Oct 2020, & at that time they were grouped with gyms & indoor exercise classes as comparable in terms of infection risk, and assumes no face coverings used Department for Culture, Media and Sport Oliver Dowden #ChoirsMatter Para 29 gov.uk/government/pub…
This is superbly written. I wonder if Oliver Dowden and his mates at Department for Culture, Media and Sport have read this? The entire choral world is on the same page. Just asking Oliver Dowden and @dcms for parity across leisure activities...so that choirs are able to rehearse indoors (complete with all of our safety measures & risk assessments) #choirsmatter #singingmatters
"There’s been no evidence to show that singing indoors is more dangerous now than it was a few weeks ago." We agree with Declan Costello speaking on BBC Radio 4 this morning - Department for Culture, Media and Sport need to show us the science.
It’s more than the loss of work (and I’ve lost fees Department for Culture, Media and Sport Oliver Dowden). I hadn’t anticipated the emotional cost of being treated so disproportionately. It’s exhausting justifying your work every day. It’s tempting the best to leave this profession. #ChoirsMatter #singingmatters
Brilliant to see coverage of Department for Culture, Media and Sport guidance, & its impact on amateur choirs, will be discussed on both BBC Radio 3 (w/Declan Costello) & BBC Radio 4 (w/Bob Chilcott) tonight. #ChoirsMatter #singingmatters
I have written to Oliver Dowden (Department for Culture, Media and Sport & @DCMSArts) to ask about the rationale for the restrictions placed on non-professional singing - the guidance states that only 6 singers can meet in an indoor space. We should see the evidence that has led to these tight strictures.
Thank you Wera Hobhouse MP 🔶 🇺🇦 for raising the unfair treatment of choirs in not being allowed to return to rehearsals by Oliver Dowden Department for Culture, Media and Sport. A total lack of parity - compared with other indoor activities and no published science justifying their decision to delay. #ChoirsMatter
