As part of their topic on the Great Fire of London, Y2 have been thinking about how firefighting has changed since 1666. Today, we had a visit from Bourne Fire Station. Y2 asked some really interesting questions. Thank you to the members of Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.

Y4 had an AMAZING day with King Henry VIII himself visiting Thurlby Academy. They had a day filled with weapons & armour handling, archery, Tudor dancing & board games. The children have shown Henry all of our Thurlby values & he even commented on what a wonderful class they are.

Y1 have been captivated by their writing all year but especially now as they are using the Mighty Writers board to discuss, plan and extend their writing ideas. Yesterday, the children were working hard on a retell of The Snail on the Whale using great vocabulary & grammar.

Congratulations to some of our Y6 children who took part in a Rounders transition event at Spalding Grammar School today. The children were organised into teams with other children who will be attending the same secondary school as them in order to start building friendships 🌟

Y4 had a great visit to the Theatre Royal in Norwich. For a number of our children, this was their first theatre experience & it did not disappoint. They were entertained by musical numbers, silly humour & skilled puppetry which made them feel they were watching real Dalmatians.

Y1 are thinking about the idea of creation in RE. To begin their topic, the children created an item using paper, card and tissue paper. The children created some amazing items and had some very imaginative ideas. They thought about how making their creation had made them feel.

Y3 have created their own Stone Age villages using natural materials. They made wattle & daub walls using mud, hay & water. They then came up with a story from their village & had to tell it or act it out to the rest of the group. They all did amazing & their villages look great.

On their trip to Rockingham Castle, Y2 impressed the tour guides with their knowledge of castles using vocabulary such as ‘motte and bailey’, ‘portcullis’ and ‘the keep’. The children had a chance to look inside the castle as well as walk around the castle grounds.

Y4 took part in a ‘webinar’ with author, Hannah Gold. She has recently released a new book called Turtle Moon & the children got to hear all about her adventures in Costa Rica which inspired the story. Later in the year, Y4 will be studying another of Hannah’s fantastic novels.

Y3 have been gathering fruit & cutting it up to make a fruit stew within Forest School. They had a go at stirring the stew, which included strawberries, blackcurrants, blackberries, apples & raspberries. The children were able to have a taste the next day. 😋

Y5 & Y6 showed excellent teamwork skills during last week’s football tournament. They worked hard, showing many school game values, but particularly demonstrated passion. This was the main value focused on & our children achieved tied fourth place in this regard, well done!

Mrs Smitheringale was so impressed with the effort that Year 4 put into their History homework at the end of this term. The classroom was transformed with Roman shields, structures of Hadrian's Wall, Roman scrapbooks and beautiful artwork. Well done!

Fashion club 👗 👖 👞 Children from Years 4 - 6 have been learning about the design process. They looked at the colours for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2025 season & how they are grouped into several different blocks. This week, they began creating their own mood boards.
