Set away to clear a pipe end. Ended up getting very involved and making lots of wet holes. It’s a very satisfying job nevertheless. These drains havnt ran for quite a while by the looks of the colour.

We never made it in person to the Expo today, we just can’t miss a dry day at the moment. Our cattle made it tho, enjoying the people visiting the Woodhead/elite stand. Hope folk had a great day and learned something.

This week’s batch of cattle snug as a bug. Early morning load and away to Woodheads. Mixed bag of heifers heading out making room for stores that came in. We are proud of the beef we are producing from our little spot in Cumbria.

Watched a couple of the National trust tenancy programme. It leaves me wondering what the future is for my best pall if he decides he’s keen to produce food. It so far has just demonstrated the idyllic James Herriot style farming. Not actual real farming.

It’s happening…. It’s as good as we are going to get. Plan is to get it turned over for better chance of drying. Very claggy atm.

4 years ago to the day we got our first dairy blue calves. The addiction took hold and now we have around 600.

A look through some of the feeding this morning.
The feeder is one of the most used tools on the farm. Feeding out roughly 10tonne of feed daily. It weighs, mixes and chops. Then feeds out accurately to each group of cattle. Couldn’t do our job without it.

I think they call it puppy love.

194mm of rain in April so far here. Wettest on record they say. Practically 8 inch.

Hoping we can get on some of the dryer ground in the next couple of days, although it’s wet and rubbish, ground temps are good. A few dry days away from a plough but we can’t be everywhere at once.

Sometimes you get a win.
This little chap was struggling, he hasd scour. He was flat out, we tubed 3-4x a day for the last 4 days, antibiotics and a warm jacket.This morning,he was on his feet and suckling. In a year as bad as it’s been, we will take that.

Loving life Matthew Blair ! Learn so much everyday. So lucky to get the chance to be taught about farming. Moments of utter sadness mixed with times of joy and belly laughs! Even got to go on a quad bike today!

Apparently I lambed this handsome fella last year! So much care and attention goes into these lambs I am in awe of Matthew Blair . If you want to understand farming go and see what it’s all about! This farm really cares!
