Every member of staff at our school (Office Team and Teaching team) is trained to be a coach. It's the most powerful way to build capacity within a learning community.

I've always wondered why someone would want to be an Ofsted Inspector, particularly under the current framework. Removing the overall judgement is a quick structural change. Cultural change, for inspectors, will take longer.

A child excitedly handed a bunch of flowers to his teacher on his first day today. He explained that in his culture (Bulgarian), it was a tradition to do that. What a lovely gesture.

Ofsted will now only phone on Monday if they plan to inspect your school in that week. A sensible move. This will really support schools and their staff teams.

23 school shootings in the US this year alone. Seriously, when are people going to stand up and try to put a stop to this madness?!

3 welcome back assemblies today. 800 children. We mentioned the bigotry and racism of the riots in the summer. I saw a community of students with a steely determination to make their future world a better place.

There seems to be so many educational consultants in the world. I'm worried that there won't be enough leaders left to consult to actually do the job in schools.

I'm determined to share the message far and wide that being a school leader can be the most fantastic and rewarding job. One week back and I feel great!

Great teachers are: Tough on behaviour Consistent with expectations Clear with sanctions They are also kind and caring and inclusive. The qualities above are not mutually exclusive.

Attendance is a challenge I know. The way we attempt to meet that challenge is to make school as welcoming, enjoyable and inclusive as possible. Then we make sure we visit each parent at home to ask them how we can work together to help our children attend school.

We look after our staff. Make them feel valued, included and respected. They then do that for our students. A learning community. Simple.

The most important factor that influences student learning in schools is the quality of teaching. The job of leaders therefore is to make it as easy as possible for teachers to teach well.

The best way to focus on the learning and wellbeing of students in schools is for leaders to focus on the learning and wellbeing of the staff team.

Schools can be inclusive, supportive and empowering for every member of staff. It's easy. If you are working in a toxic school, get out of there.

Every school day in September is so important. As you share your values and set the standard and expectations for the rest of the school year.

The challenges in leading a school have increased considerably in the past five years. We need to look after school leaders so they can look after their staff teams.

We are a rights respecting school. By showing our students (and each other) respect and treating them with kindness, they learn the value of being respectful and kind to each other. It is a lovely place to work.
