A bright star has been plucked from the African continent. President John Magufuli of Tanzania was a man I knew quite well, due to my frequent visits to Tanzania for the advancement of democracy in Africa.

The African Union family is united in grief with the Govt&People of #Tanzania by the untimely passing of H.E. President John Pombe Magufuli. Africa has lost a champion of regional cooperation in the East African region and a committed Pan Africanist leader. May he rest in peace

My heartfelt condolences to President John Magufuli’s family, including First Lady Janeth Magufuli, as well as Vice President Samia Suluhu and the people of Tanzania. I wish peace and comfort to his loved ones.
