Yesterday I hosted President Issoufou Mahamadou at the State House. I congratulated him on the successful completion of his second term as President of our sister country, the Republic of Niger, and the good people of Niger for the successful conduct of a free,fair & credible election.

A bright star has been plucked from the African continent. President John Magufuli of Tanzania was a man I knew quite well, due to my frequent visits to Tanzania for the advancement of democracy in Africa.

The African Union family is united in grief with the Govt&People of #Tanzania by the untimely passing of H.E. President John Pombe Magufuli. Africa has lost a champion of regional cooperation in the East African region and a committed Pan Africanist leader. May he rest in peace

We are pleased to have been joined today by His Excellency Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal, on the second day of West African Elders Forum's Sub-regional Dialogue on Sustaining Democractic Principles in West Africa, going on in Dakar.

We, West African Elders Forum used the opportunity to formally congratulate President Sall on his recent election as the Chairperson of the African Union(AU) and encouraged him to deploy his good offices to promote democracy, peaceful elections and good governance on the continent. -GEJ
