TWR gave me my first real chance at writing a longform essay - the kind I had never published before. They were the first place outside of Australia to publish my work. I dreamed about writing for them for years and then one day they actually gave me a chance...

We are saddened by this news. We represent several authors who launched their careers through The White Review, and it has been a privilege to support their Short Story Prize in both 2021 and 2022. Thank you to the dedicated staff and supporters whose work has made this possible.

The White Review is one of the reasons I moved to London. It's the best place I've ever written. It's where I met some of my best friends and been edited by the best editors and learned so much. I appreciate everyone who were ever part of it it was the best ❤️

It's a privilege to serve on the board and I'm grateful to TWR for giving me both my first editing experience and a literary community
It remains a testament to the writers and artists published in its pages and the staff and supporters who made it

This is a devastating loss to literature
and especially to literature in translation. My infinite gratitude to its many brilliant editors through the years. I sincerely hope that someone can get beyond the cultural myopia to properly fund such essential magazines.

The White Review was a reference point for me when I was starting to think about what art & literature could be, and I know it has been valuable to so many. Just to echo everyone else, this really does say a lot about current art & culture funding structures in this country.

I spent five years as poetry editor of TWR and, later, got an agent because of a non-fiction thing I published there. proud to have been there near the start and to have seen so many other writers benefit from such a Quixotic gamble
