I have had it with DEI being turned into a bad word. The conservative effort to redub DEI as “Didn’t Earn It” is rich. Building wealth on the backs of enslaved peoples while on stolen land is the definition of Didn’t Earn It. Sit right down. #DEI

I can’t believe I have to write this but suddenly stopping the IV pain meds for a patient with #SickleCell in the middle of a crisis and new acute chest syndrome is ignorant at best and racist at worst. #BelieveThePain

So CREST Collaborative you fired my patient with #SickleCell while she was laying in her hospital bed with acute complications from her disease. And you did it by text no less. Her relentless disease has forced her to miss work. This is shameful.

Shame upon any state or organization that makes #DEI into a bad word. Eliminating these programs is willfully ignoring truth. It doesn’t make the crimes of history go away. It repeats them. Shame.

Happy Immigrataversary to my parents! 42 years ago today my mom immigrated to the US (my dad can’t remember his date so we celebrate both together). Being the son of immigrants is a big part of who I am and in today’s world, the call to “welcome the stranger” is imperative.

I don’t have the expertise needed to reflect wisely on the work of the Rev. Martin Luther King but I don’t think he did the work just to appear in memes and politicians’ speeches. This year let’s actually do what he asked of us. In word and deed let’s truly create equity.

The incredible Massachusetts Sickle Cell Association has acquired a bib for the #BostonMarathon and are in need of someone who can run to raise awareness and funds for our #SCDWarriors ! I get winded walking to the fridge but I’ll be there on the sidelines to cheer on our runner!

2023 helped make #SickleCell a part of the national dialogue. In 2024, let’s make it clear that our #SCDWarriors have actually been speaking for decades. Through renewed commitment to advocacy and engagement, let’s make this the year we finally make the world listen.
