Maybe the most brazen insane thing about the WB Paramount merger is the idea that the studio who releases 4 movies a year and keeps letting spongebob and mission impossible flop has more financial buoyancy than the company who had 10 #1 movies in a row and just won a dozen oscars

A critic’s “credibility” isn’t based on being right or wrong because those aren’t static categories (a movie audiences love one decade, they’ll despise or forget about the next decade and vice versa). Credibility is based on a critic being honest and coherent about their views.

how exactly does a critic “lose” bc audiences like a movie? that happens all the time. it’s not our job to stop people from seeing bad movies. all we do is write a review for a flat rate. we don’t get more for pans or less for raves. no one is lying and everyone should grow up.

I’m all for contrarian opinions, but when your tweets consist of asserting Grace Kelly was a bitch and Ginger Rogers a no-talent, that Audrey Hepburn lied about nearly starving under the Nazis and that “North by Northwest” looks like crap — well, blocking never felt better.

Of course we did. That’s what played on TV. The amount of times I just stumbled onto something was countless. There weren’t a million options but we also weren’t siloed in a bubble of a single interest. And personally, my dad took the time to show me the movies he grew up with.

one of the worst changes to how we engage with media is the illusion we "control" what we watch. we don't. we're spoonfed small streaming libraries that limit our exposure to a wide range of cinema and tv, so fewer and fewer people expand their palette and truly connect with art.

Saw it in the theater and when it ended I turned to my buddy. The first word out of his mouth was “masterpiece.” He was right and then some. The third act is some of Scorsese’s most devastating work.

Fell hard for Erupcja, a breezy film that treats love and life with both deep honesty and absurdity. Could have spent twice as long following these characters walking the streets of Warsaw. And if you have any doubt Charli XCX is a wonderful actress, this film will erase that.

We’re about to head into the summer movie season. So here are my top 5 of 2026 so far: 1. Project Hail Mary 2. Erupcja 3. Nirvana the Band the Show the Movie 4. Exit 8 5. The Drama
