Global North universities scrambling to decolonise their curricula while doing nothing to reexamine their international partnerships, decentre their staff as PIs in collaborative funding grants or restructure their overseas institutes are literally doing the bare minimum.

Universities claiming to want to "decolonise" should look carefully at their partnerships with African orgs and institutions. Solidarity with MLW staff and researchers pushing for a fairer work environment, and an end to colonial power dynamics in their workspace.

So here is quick Tate story:In 2019, I sent them an emotional labour invoice for racism and they paid it. It was more symbolic gesture of racism I had to explain and then engage in self advocacy around.

When I got my PhD, I couldn’t talk about it. I hid my copy of my thesis. I deleted my photos. I moved on to new musicals as fast as I could. To 2018 Hannah, I want to say: “I’m reading your thesis and having a great time, including chuckles at quoted material. Proud of you.”

The state of UK academia for those interested in Black humanities is steadily worsening as universities lay off the academics who have worked hard to provide the teaching and research that sustains those fields. Please sign here to support these academics at Goldsmiths!

I can’t tell you how much I don’t want to strike. Like many African scholars/underrepresented ethnic minorities in U.K. HE, we have families & research communities who rely on our support. But we must improve work conditions for everyone. UCU Edinburgh UCU #FourFights #UCUstrike

A tweet to encourage all of my teaching academics that decolonising the curriculum extends beyond critical perspectives on the syllabus. Its also about assessment in how we depart from colonial modes of knowledge productions. Folks, essays are NOT the only way to assess learning.

Job in the research collections of University of Edinburgh library. Part time (17.5 hours/week), fixed term (6 months), £28,756 - £33,309 pro-rata. Interesting and important research, but you'd need to be based in or near Edinburgh already.

I hope people realise the definition of Critical Race Theory that is banned has broadened to include ANYTHING that acknowledges the historical legacy of systemic racism against Black & Indigenous people. You cant teach racism unless you include how white people have helped. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Specifically a UK higher education question: If you are neurodivergent, do you have any sort of designated professional person you can interact with to sort things/tease unfamilar things out? A bit like the support tutors/advisors students have.
