Finding the right person also means being the right person. We are happy together because we went through the process of self-preparation. Once that is clear, it will be much easier to find your right-hand mate.

There’s a level of humility that’s required to build a strong relationship and a strong marriage. It’s a level that requires you to deliberately position yourself as a student. We work because we’ve taken the time to learn each other.

One thing that we are blessed to have in our relationship is a sense of security. We have built and nurtured an environment in which we both feel safe. This has been important because we understand that our spouse is present in our most vulnerable moments.

One of the best things we did for our relationship was to allow it to be unique. The temptation in a relationship is to build a relationship that looks like one we have admired, but what works for others may not work for you.

Underneath the romance, we are friends. There are moments when what either one of us needs is the support of a friend, and we are able to be that for each other. When what the other needs from us is to just be quiet and listen and to offer encouragement then that is what we do.
