Love the MTA's constant quest to reinvent the wheel and come up with something worse. This is a problem that has been solved the world over, including on other MTA trains!

Found this part of Lieber's interview interesting. The most expensive fares in the western hemisphere charged by the 2 railroads he runs pushs poor people in outer boroughs, Nassau, and Westchester onto far slower bus-to-subway trips—and MTA has done very little to address that.

Ed Unneland Paul Berk The LIRR Today That's dumb. That'll just slow down the train. They should just add fare gates at stations with a lot of fare evasion and have conductors actually check everyone's ticket onboard like they're supposed to.

Less than two months to the end of MetroCard sales and LIRR is STILL bullying senior and disabled riders who present reduced fare OMNY cards onboard trains, even though MTA's website says it is 100% valid proof for half fares. reddit.com/r/nycrail/s/Lm…

How do people think the rest of the projects are paid for? It all comes out of our pockets one way or another. Just a question of which pocket. Who paid for the $12 billion spent on East Side Access? We did. 20 cents out of every fare dollar goes to MTA debt service.

I'm not fan of free buses, but I think the idea that the bondholders revolt is a red herring. MTA has made tons of fare policy changes, discounts, promotions with bonds out on the street. Call it a pilot program. Poof, problem solved...

LIRR made it into a stock video shot in, the latest Wendover video. That sloppy ballast work caught my eye immediately. Any guesses for where?
