Terrific seminar on beans and kmer-based GWAS by @AndrewWiersma from ADM and former Buell lab member here uda uda PBGG GSA at UGA PlantCenterUGA
Had a second great day of visits with bean experts here PBGG GSA at UGA PlantCenterUGA . Tim Porch, Consuelo Esteves de Jensen, Miranda J Haus at Iron Horse Farm with Zenglu Li of UGA Soybean Breeding Program. Beautiful fall day in Georgia
First semester at VT School of Plant and Environmental Sciences in the books! So impressed by all the hard work put in by the lab this year and taking this huge life change in stride. Can’t wait for 2024! Ravneet Kaur Guillian Hernández Casanova, Collin and Ishveen.

Excited to start our new @nsf Wheat Diversity Project with K Eversole. We will generate platinum quality genomes for Chinese Spring and 12 landraces in collaboration with INRAE_International Université Paris-Saclay Corteva Agriscience UGA Agricultural & Environmental Sciences PlantCenterUGA newswire.caes.uga.edu/story/10342/br…
Our paper on volatile biosynthesis in cat thyme has been published in The Plant Journal. The Lichman Lab had an amazing collab with Buell lab. Sefa Ayten assembled a chromosome-scale genome that allowed us to discover how cat thyme makes diverse iridoids. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/tp…
Buell lab participates in another exciting Questival UGA Botanical Garden explaining the exciting chemistry in plants and how we use them in everyday life U.S. National Science Foundation uda uda PlantCenterUGA
Two Buell Lab Grad students (Anne Frances Jarrell and Anita Giabardo) win poster competition at the UGA IPBGG retreat!! Exiting work on wild potato and poplar xylem! UGA Agricultural & Environmental Sciences PlantCenterUGA PBGG GSA at UGA
Teaching Oxford Nanopore sequencing Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory this week for the Frontiers and Techniques in Plant Sciences Course! Students were super excited to get hands on with dummy flowcells provided by ONT to practice handling, priming and loading. Huge thanks to ONT for helping make this possible!

Our paper on Chia has been published in The Plant Genome 🌱🧬! We assembled the genome of Chia pinta, assessed population structure, and also examined terpene synthase composition between Chia pinta and Chia negra. doi.org/10.1002/tpg2.2…
Excited to have our first publication on k-mer-based GWAS in bean out in The Plant Genome 🌱🧬. Great team effort by Buell lab and Dr. Kelly @michiganstate led by @AndrewWiersma. Funded by Dept. of Agriculture Georgia Research Alliance UGA acsess.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…
Our paper (Buell lab O'Connor Lab) on the regulation of vinca alkaloid biosynthesis at cell type resolution is published at New Phytologist! It is my 2nd paper using single cell techniques to study the genomics & regulation of plant specialized metabolism: nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/np… 1/2
Excited to see our new paper on single cell multi-ome analysis in Catharanthus roseus led by Chenxin Li, PhD (@chenxinli2.bsky.social) out in New Phytologist . Great collaboration with O'Connor Lab and team effort by Buell lab. nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.11…
Buell Lab Undergrad Researcher Allie Gordon presented her work this semester at the UGA Agricultural & Environmental Sciences Research Symposium today! Allie was a huge aide in optimizing nuclei isolations from various plant species/tissues for the end goal of inputting into single cell experiments
