I’ve just arrived at Donington for the first #BTCC quali of the year. The BTCC is not only a fantastic series but also a client of my comms, PR, social media, content creation & digital marketing agency Diagonal Comms. But, first, here’s a cool Reliant Scimitar in the car park.

An exciting & close #SpanishGP took place #OnThisDay in 2008, pole sitter & fastest lap setter Kimi Räikkönen winning for Ferrari, his team-mate Felipe Massa 2nd, & McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton 3rd. Just 4.2sec covered the 3 of them by flag-fall.

Brilliant maiden #F1 GP win #OnThisDay in ’97 by Heinz-Harald Frentzen, beating Michael Schumacher’s & Eddie Irvine’s Ferraris at Imola in this handsome Williams FW19. H-HF was only 1.2sec ahead of Schumi at the end, but it was enough.

#LookUpLondon : it’s always nice to walk across Waterloo Bridge on a sunny day, which I’ve just done, strolling from one meeting to another. St Paul’s Cathedral is now dwarfed by the high-rises in the Square Mile, but I quite like the juxtaposition of old & new. #HistoryOnTheHoof

Remembering John Colum Crichton-Stuart, 7th Marquess of Bute, aka Johnny Dumfries in his #F1 days, who should be turning 66 today, for he was born #OnThisDay in ’58. But, very sadly, he died of cancer 3 years ago. Pic: Lotus 98T (’86).

Remembering Tom Jones, from Dallas, Texas, who was born #OnThisDay in ’43 & entered (but DNQ’d for) one #F1 GP, Mosport ’67, in a Cooper (pic). After hanging up his helmet, by all accounts he lived out a reclusive life in Cleveland, Ohio, & died in 2015, aged 72.

Remembering Jean-Pierre Beltoise, born #OnThisDay in ’37. He began on bikes, raced 86 #F1 GPs, won one (Monaco ’72), & won his class at Le Mans with Henri Pescarolo in an Inaltéra in ’76. Pic: Matra MS11, Spa, ’68.
