Verdict: Rejected! Came in and took one sample of each fruit, shook his head at the sourness (lol) then bailed and drank from the hummingbird feeder. Gotta get more oranges!

Experimenting this morning. My orioles ate all the oranges I put out and I don’t have any more, but I do have an old lime and old lemon. I cut them in half and put them out. Let’s see if they eat them.

I was sorta dreading having to write about cicadas again but then I came across a study that shows how giant bursts of them just completely upend the ecosystem, make birds go crazy, and give fat caterpillars a lifeline.

They are indeed very cool bugs.

Water collects on the pool cover in spring and all kinds of birds come to drink, including these Red Crossbills this morning. I’ve had this species fly over a number of times but this is the first time I’ve seen them this close.
