Commonwealth Rent Assistance has increased by 10%🏘️

This is good in the short term, but doesn't address the key problems behind the housing and rental crisis.

(I.e. there's no new money for public housing, or reforms to capital gains or negative gearing)

Remember when the Minister for Climate Change Chris Bowen said the private sector had to 'go it alone' on carbon capture and storage?
(this doesn't include the leg/policy support the govt has already given to ccs since 2022)

The Australian Government is so confident that fossil fuel use is going to increase in Australia that they are actively budgeting for it.
Renewable energy...not so much.

I would have thought that funding environmental legal services would do more to 'protect Australia’s natural environment, ecosystems and biodiversity' than litter prevention. But maybe that's just me.

The expected revenue from the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax has been revised down. It continues to fail to ensure that Australians benefit from the sale of our gas reserves.

Australia has 3 year parliamentary terms but increasingly Governments lay out ‘10 year plans’ for spending…some of the Future Made in Australia spending gores out 16 years…

This is fantasy stuff. Future parliaments will do what they want

Back again! If you need a break from budget content I’m on LNL on Radio National tonight talking US politics and Project 2025 (the smile is a lie, everything is terrible).

No mention in tonight’s budget of the Minster for (exporting) Resources plan to build new gas till ‘2050 and beyond’.

Good.

Now we need to stop approving them as well as stop talking about them
