NEW: Kansas City tenants just launched the largest rent strike in decades. They're burning their rent notices to demand a new landlord, a national rent cap, and the right to collectively bargain their leases. And they could change renting in America as we know it.

A 3% national rent cap is the type of thing that would change countless lives.

RENT STRIKE DAY 18: After a week of retaliation and lies, Quality Hill strikers delivered dirty sink and tub water, roaches, mice traps, and photos of structural damage to the management offices.

FHFA Director Sandra Thompson, the federal regulator, and Sentinel Real Estate, the landlord, are responsible for this disaster. We won’t back down till they meet us at the bargaining table.

For years tenants have woken up to bugs crawling on them, undrinkable water, inches of standing water in their bathtub, and holes in the ceiling with actual shit raining down on them. This response isn't just negligent, it's cruel.

If the regulators agree to stay the night (unlikely), they live momentarily what the tenants live daily- mold, roaches, asbestos… If they don’t, they show that they wouldn’t accept these conditions for even one night, but they’re comfortable subjecting us to them.

STRIKE UPDATE: Quality Hill Towers Tenant Union announced a pause in their 64-day rent strike, a commitment to reaching an agreement with their landlord, Sentinel Corporation. Independence Towers Tenant Union will strike in December, marking the union’s third month on strike.
