Absolutely electric week in Kansas City as hundreds of tenants strike for national rent caps. Strikers like Enrique are leading the way to a better future, taking extraordinary (and deeply considered) risks because they know we’re all worth more than this. #RentStrike

NEW: Kansas City tenants just launched the largest rent strike in decades. They're burning their rent notices to demand a new landlord, a national rent cap, and the right to collectively bargain their leases. And they could change renting in America as we know it.

FHFA Director Sandra Thompson, the federal regulator, and Sentinel Real Estate, the landlord, are responsible for this disaster. We won’t back down till they meet us at the bargaining table.

For years tenants have woken up to bugs crawling on them, undrinkable water, inches of standing water in their bathtub, and holes in the ceiling with actual shit raining down on them. This response isn't just negligent, it's cruel.

If the regulators agree to stay the night (unlikely), they live momentarily what the tenants live daily- mold, roaches, asbestos… If they don’t, they show that they wouldn’t accept these conditions for even one night, but they’re comfortable subjecting us to them.

Spent last weekend training Louisville Tenants Union and this weekend training KC Tenants. As the takes continue swirling, tenants are getting in formation to exercise our ultimate power: our rent. If we have a chance, the chance lives in the tenant union ❤️‍🔥
