The most dangerous game players play is relying on their shot making. The safest thing to do as a player is play hard. Playing hard guarantees you respect from both your teammates & coaches. Using miss or made baskets to determine if you played well or not is a scary thing.

Skill Training vs Player Development — big difference! Developing requires correction + teaching — not just getting reps up in a obstacle course. Breaking down their game film, dissecting their game and correcting their mechanics, growing their IQ through purposeful tasks, etc.

5/18/25 – While in Memphis for Nike EYBL Session 2, we brought our 17U team to the National Civil Rights Museum @ the site where Dr. King was murdered. We don’t just train athletes. The goal is to shape leaders. Basketball is the vehicle. The goal is growth, purpose, and impact.

Seems like a major shift is happening at independent tourneys. College coach attendance is way down. With coaches choosing not to bring in as many HS recruits, they’re locked in on top circuits. Big Time was empty (maybe 10 coaches @ main site) — last few years it was packed.

Spoke with a head coach from a local 4-year university in Oregon yesterday — he said recruiting Oregon kids is so hard because most of them are delusional about their ability and come up in watered-down systems with robotic coaching (or no coaching at all).
