Students putting their bodies, future and freedom on the line like this is so fucking inspiring. They are truly living out what I think is the most important principle of solidarity: that their lives in the West are not more important than those in Gaza, Palestine.

The NYPD have been trained by the IDF. It's not surprising they act like this, but it's still horrific to think that university administrators and Democratic politicians have turned these brutes on peacefully protesting students.

While all the while wagging their finger at other countries for being too 'authoritarian' and threatening them with sanctions & worse if they don't behave themselves.

So glad Trump lost in 2020 otherwise we'd be seeing fascistic crackdowns on political dissent, police brutalizing protesters, tyrannical suppression of free speech, and the facilitation of racist and Islamophobic agendas. That psycho would probably be committing genocide by now.

As the NYPD’s “strategic response group” leads the crackdown at Columbia I’m reminded how the SRG was originally pitched as an elite counterterror unit that would stop ISIS attacks. 9 yrs on they’re primarily used to spy on and arrest protestors and clear out homeless camps.

I'll be unsurprised that if any student actions in NZ get traction then NZ media will run outright lies about them saying horrific things at the behest of some of worst genocidally complicit commentators & experts they've regularly platformed in the last 6 months- keep an eye out

'The most moral army in the world'. Nearly every Israeli politician and spokesperson trots this line out like an automaton - including the Israeli Ambassador on the abysmal TVNZ interview - and for years Western journalists have been just regurgitating it.

If this were in Russia or Iran -- a police force of this size deployed against students protesting the state's war policies -- it'd be universally denounced as evil tyranny.

The problem for the protesters is they chose the one issue that could provoke police force of this kind:

'Our presence, intellects, capacity to build community, are a threat. It is about trying to disarm me from developing and mentoring the next generation of fierce Arab, Muslim and POC intellectuals in academia and prevent us from doing work that threatens White supremacy'.

It's been interesting to see how rapidly and shamelessly the institutions of American violence have been deployed in support of Israel and against democracy. And how afraid universities around the world are to speak up for academics and students facing this fascistic violence.
