The goal is not to become fearless. We just don’t want fear making our decisions when we are trying to learn and grow.

I apologized to a student today for a miscommunication gone bad yesterday. When I apologized, she said, “It’s okay miss, we all have bad days. I forgive you.” And she moved on. Kids are so much cooler than adults. What if we treated each other like they treat us?

Had the day off work today. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, but I am at the point in my Facebook feed where it’s solely cake decorating videos and shared posts from last Tuesday.

Are we getting better at the drill, or are we getting better at the skills the drill is trying to teach?

Things heard in room 228 today: “I’m getting my work started, miss, I just had to put her in a choke hold first.” “I thought teachers had to show movies on holidays. How come you don’t have to?”

Today I said, “I’m finna call your mama if you say that again, no cap” so obviously I’m excelling at professionalism in the 8th grade.

I have never felt more loved than I did today in my own classroom. My students showered me with kind words and birthday wishes unlike I’ve ever experienced ❤️ I am so thankful we all found each other.

Idk this just seems fitting after completing my first semester teaching 8th grade. Here’s to two full weeks of only having to decide when I get to go to the bathroom, sitting down sometimes, and being called by my first name.

Yesterday one of my students asked if I’d ever considered modeling for Adidas which is quite possibly the highest compliment a 13 year old can give.

Nothing in this world could have prepared me for my students’ answers to “Is everything okay?” ALWAYS ask. Always.

7th graders: *wear masks, sanitize before & after touching anything, sit 6ft apart, spray & wipe desks & seats clean after use, use bathroom only when <4 people are using it - all without complaining or forgetting any steps* Also 7th graders: “Do we have to show our work?”
