Most interesting that the I&B ministry can do so. The rhetoric by Manish Tewari and team while he was I&B minister, was that they had no say in cable networks or tv ratings. We at Day & Night News approached him no end, wrote, advocated but alas they were mostly toothless.

What we at Day & Night News asked for in our representations to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, ministers Soni, Manish Tewari was level playing field for all TV channels and not to take any one off air. We wanted check on cable monopoly. Got no help and finally had to move CCI.

My mails of 2011-12 with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting show that Day & Night News sought Central Bureau of Investigation (India) probe into monopoly by cable mafia, compliance with Cable Act forbidding cable operators from running news channels.
