Water is life! 🌊 💧

UNICEF Afghanistan is building sustainable water systems for 64,000 people in remote areas of Afghanistan, w/ contributions from الجمعية الكويتية للإغاثة and الصندوق السعودي للتنمية through the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund facilitated by IsDB Group and OIC.

Many water systems were destroyed in the recent floods, and families struggled to get enough clean water for drinking, cooking and bathing.

UNICEF is trucking in water to these communities every day, providing 15 litres of water per person, per day for over 22,000 people.

Although the floods have subsided, needs have not.

With flexible funding, UNICEF Afghanistan can bring emergency assistance where it's most urgently needed.

In Ghor, we've provided hygiene kits, blankets, children's clothing & water purification tablets for over 2,200 affected people.

Following the floods, UNICEF is leading hygiene promotion sessions, where parents learn:
🔹When and how to wash hands properly with soap
🔹Safe water storage
🔹Maintaining a hygienic home environment

Over 2,600 people so far have participated in these educational sessions.

30-year-old Jamila just received cash assistance for her family. 'Now I can purchase anything my daughter needs,' she said. UNICEF Afghanistan is providing cash assistance for flood-affected households in Ghor and Baghlan, Afghanistan, helping families get back on their feet w/ dignity.

Over 1,400 hygiene kits have been distributed to flood-affected families in northern Afghanistan.

UNICEF remains on the ground in the devastated communities, providing cash assistance, healthcare, blankets and warm clothes.

Today's visit to Baghlan province, Northern Afghanistan, alongside UN Afghanistan, offered a sobering glimpse into the aftermath of recent flash floods. UNICEF Afghanistan & partners are providing vital support, incl. safe water, supplies, cash & psychosocial support. Ugent needs remain.

Today, UNICEF Afghanistan signed a partnership agreement w/ Embassy of Japan in Afghanistan to protect children & mothers from vaccine preventable diseases. The partnership will expand #RoutineImmunization & #PolioEradication campaign for millions of children in Afghanistan.

This week, I accompanied UNICEF South Asia Regional Director Sanjay Wijesekera to the Indira Gandhi hospital in Kabul, where UNICEF Afghanistan's partnership w/ Asian Development Bank & World Bank South Asia enabled 20M Afghans, half of whom are #children , to access lifesaving health services last year.

Clean water is crucial for child survival. Thanks to flexible Global Thematic Funding, UNICEF Afghanistan can bring eco-friendly water facilities to communities like Sorobi in central Afghanistan, where a new water treatment plant is giving 9,000 people (4,000 children) safe access.

A real pleasure to engage w/ children accessing #protection and #psychosocial services at the child friendly center, a safe space, established by UNICEF Afghanistan & partners #ForEveryChild at the Torkham border in Eastern Afghanistan.
