Variable #Damselfly Coenagrion pulchellum Goirmín luaineach Frequents vegetation near freshwater lakes, fens, ponds – in sheltered unshaded areas May/August. Translucent wings & black dot near the tip & a blue line between blue spots behind eyes. Male to the top, female below.

The success of this summer’s #NewbridgeInBloom in generating a warm & welcoming atmosphere has been the subject of much favourable comment - these planters are along #BallymanyRoad Thanks to all involved in the maintenance & deadheading the display. #ItsEasy2MakeADifference

Wonderful group out on Tuesday evening tackling some weeds etc. around "Sentinel", Buckley's Cross roundabout & traffic islands. A task we tend to tackle twice per annum - on this occasion it required a considerable effort by our volunteers. Litter was picked out the Naas Rd.

#Butterfly Ringlet Aphantopus hyperantus Fáinneog Coloured very dark brown, with small eyespots on both forewing & hindwing. Eyespots are more obvious on the paler underside. They can have a white fringe to the wings. Widespread on damp grassland areas. Áilleacht an dúlra!

Fungi Fungais Mushroom Muisiriún There are many types of #Fungi in Ireland Many Fungi feed on dead material like trees, dead plants, leaves or animals. These found on undisturbed ground & in pesticide free, undisturbed woodland settings. #FungiFriday

Comma butterfly. The first confirmed report of the Comma in the Republic of Ireland was in 2000 in Co. Wexford (O'Donnell & Wilson, 2009). It is now consistently recorded each year throughout the south and east ref. species.biodiversityireland.ie/profile.php...

Marsh Thistle Cirsium palustre Feochadán corraigh This native plant is quite tall, with reddish/purple flowers. Can be found in marshy ground & woodlands, although this one found on a roadside. Flowering June to August. #WildflowerHour

Montbretia Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora Fealeastram dearg Blooming with bright red / orange flowers from July to September, a relatively tall plant, with grass-like leaves. It is an introduced species but seems to thrive & naturalise in many locations. #WildflowerHour

Rhus Typhina - Stag’s Horn Sumac Deciduous bush growing alongside the Liffey, possibly planted as its on a high bank. Cone-shaped deep crimson flowers. #Wildflowerhour

Butterfly-bush Buddleja davidii Tor an fhéileacáin Flowering vigorously at present. Flowers can bloom in clusters & tend to attract butterflies, bees & other pollinators. It can reach heights of 12 feet, with a spread of four to eight feet unless managed. #WildflowerHour
