It's a minor miracle that BYU trails Notre Dame by only 6 in 2nd qtr. BYU offense is still on the bus. Many miscomms between QB/WR. Safety when QB held ball too long in pocket in EZ. Will be interesting when BYU's offense shows up. No dis to ND def but this part is self-inflicted

BYU WR Puka Nacua does it all--runs, catches, blocks... In critical situations when the Cougars have to have it, and they need a player to just defeat the defender in front of him, Nacua is this year's Tyler Allgeier. That's a high compliment, and well deserved.

Mike Leach deserves the title of Coach with a capital C. He is known for high tech Air Raid passing, but at heart he was an old-school, hard-nosed football man. He never bent to the whims of others, always stuck to his principles. I will remember him with respect and gratitude.

The Texans flipped the script with their first two picks. For years, they have played w the qb edge on the opposing team. They just drafted Ohio State qb CJ Stroud at #2, and Alabama's qb wrecker Will Anderson Jr at #3. Outstanding! #NFLDraft2023

The Titans made a solid pick at #11 in Northwestern OL Peter Skoronski. He was a stellar tackle in the Big Ten, but he could play anywhere along the line in the NFL--possibly even center. A lot of scouts have him graded as the top OL in the draft, and #6 overall. #NFLDraft2023

Titans first preseason game, looking on offense for: 1. OL, just stay on their feet and keep pushing. This is the weakness of the team entering season. Success for them starts not w dominating, but in just giving skill guys a chance by not falling off blocks so defs run free.

What I'm watching on Titans offense: 2. QB Willis: command of the process, decisions, accuracy. 3. QB Levis: slow down, don't rush; don't let a mistake flustered him on subsequent plays.

Also for Titans Levis, show some touch and trajectory on his throws. His default is his fastball, especially when he's under pressure. Needs to show more subtlety.

For Utah to beat SEC blueblood Florida with their 3rd option at QB, they will have to be physically dominant in the trenches. If they succeed, then they will be national players for the CFP when Cam Rising returns.

Vince Vaughn joked on GameDay that BYU players are so old, some of them are taking reverse mortgages already. Seeing that play out with Cougars' resilience on the road. Kansas scored two TDs, BYU didn't wilt, answered each time. Score tied at 14 in 2nd qtr.

Ohio State vs Michigan will be about big plays. In 2022 UM had 5 TD plays of 40+ yds vs OSU. Those 5 averaged 69.8 yds per play. The other 55 UM plays? 3.2 yds per play. In 2023 OSU def changed emphasis, have allowed 1 play of 40+, which cut points per game allowed in half.

Watch the replay at 18 secs for what a hip drop tackle is and why it was banned in NFL. Should be in CFB too. But, for those who want to keep it, then let's bring back chop blocks and blocking below the waist on crack backs. Those are just blocks, right? m.youtube.com/watch?v=iBzVPV…

One of the things BYU needed to improve this year was getting pressure on the QB without blitzing. Early in game, they are getting pressure vs SMU with three DL plus LB Jack Kelly, moving Kelly around so the protection can't zero in on him. Huge improvement!

Trevor Matich (@tmatich) 's Twitter Profile Photo

BYU stuffed on 4th and one, inside run. Entire SMU defense was crowding the line. Why not throw into all that empty space behind them? Matter of fact, why aren't they doing that more anyway? SMU defense is swarming the run and short throws. Would love to hear that explanation.

Trevor Matich (@tmatich) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Mid 3rd qtr, Jake already has two turnovers--fumble and INT, both when SMU defense had gained a big advantage and he tried to make something from nothing. BYU wins by playing more cleanly on turnovers, penalties, execution. So far, it's a close defensive battle. Awful decisions.

Injuries to RBs have cause problems for BYU's offense. But they have a bunch of tall WRs and TEs; that's an advantage they will need to exploit to make up for the limitations at RB.

Trevor Matich (@tmatich) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Awesome closing stand by BYU's defense! Attacking, pressuring , smothering QB and receivers. Add that to takeaways in the red zone when SMU had momentum. One of the finest BYU defensive performances in years, makes me think of 1984 at Hawaii. Just. Wow.

Titans leading Dolphins 16-6 late 3rd qtr. The difference between Mason Rudolph and injured Will Levis at QB isn't that Rudolph is doing anything great; it's that he isn't making the big mistakes that Levi's was. More games are lost by mistakes than are won by big plays.

Trevor Matich (@tmatich) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Re potential Titans QB controversy, they owe it to the rest of the team to give them the best chance to win... ...unless they think Levis is the future, and needs to go through game-losimg growing pains to get to the promised land. Has Levis shown enough to be that guy?

Jack Tuttle in at QB for Michigan! That's a game changer. He's very talented, can unlock the UM pass game. His career has been a winding road, first Utah, transferred to Indiana, but Penix was a 1st round QB talent. Then to UM behind 1st round QB McCarthy. Now getting his chance.
