The in-house magazine for our media and politicians being extremely very definitely oppositional, antagonistic and separate from one another.

This is ludicrous. UK local news was destroyed by the lack of investment and drastic job cuts by our major local news companies that hollowed out their own journalism to protect shareholders, not by the BBC

The worst of both worlds, with even more money taken out of core services to fund commercial content - which ultimately won't be owned by (or available to) licence fee payers.

The profit-led business models of big tech are harming democracy. We should look to the tradition of public media to help us find alternatives | Analysis trib.al/0GMw1ms

Good news that ITV1 has quietly renewed ten year public service licences to 2034 with Ofcom, securing nations and regions news and proving again its importance with Mr Bates & the Post Office. Share price stabile. Channel 4 meanwhile is wilting after 14 years of govt pressure!

Incredibly proud to have seconded the Leeds Labour Group White Paper at full council rejecting the draconian Minimum Service Levels legislation brought in by the Conservative government.

Leeds Council will not be using this legislation to undermine the right to strike.

This has received a lot of angry replies, asking what is wrong with GB News & implying that the panel is somehow a threat to freedom of speech. A brief response.🧵

This is shocking. Ofcom CEO Melanie Dawes is inventing rules to allow GB News to be partisan, contrary to UK law. It is wrong and dangerous.
The next government should sack her. inews.co.uk/news/media/gb-…

A slightly awkward moment during the House of Lords journalism hearing yesterday. I didn't mean to look 'very annoyed'...

But: I think we can only fix local news if we are honest about how broken it is. You can't stop the fire if you refuse to admit the house is burning.

While the Media Bill is going through Parliament it’s clearly wrong for @ofcom to comment and express a view like this. Removing the burdens on radio means in practice embedding protectionism. Funding Channel 4 through an advertising tax, as Leo Watkins argues, would free it to focus on innovative programmes promoting unheard perspectives - achieving what its commercial rivals are too risk-averse to do. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

To be clear, Ofcom’s own Consultation Principles say they will “aim to reach the largest possible number of people” in their consultations. I suggest there’s much material evidence to suggest they were non compliant in the case of consulting those affected by BBC local changes.
