In light of the current forecast for Saturday 6 April, the BHA has agreed to move Chelmsford City’s fixture earlier in the day to a 14:50 start (originally scheduled for 17:25) and rearranged the running order.

We are heartbroken to hear the news that Stefano Cherchi has died following a fall at Canberra Racecourse last month.

Stefano rode over 100 winners in Britain before moving to Australia, and the high esteem in which he was held around the world is clear to see.

Our thoughts are…

I can understand this point cropping up, so important to be clear the protected window is a trial across the year; only 35 fixtures move to a late afternoon slot so not every Saturday affected.

Intention is to test and learn from the impact, which we will do throughout the year

R2 Newbury Racecourse: In order to allow sufficient time for the medical cover to get into position, all runners will return to the Parade Ring.

Important that the purpose of fixtures yesterday & today are agreed with The PJA so as to give the busiest GB jockeys two days off.

The measure has therefore always been GB wins, but we will of course keep under review if this is right going forward for future such meetings

This was a challenging decision & not taken lightly. Ultimately understand &, indeed agree, with the sentiment, but currently making such a change after declarations has significant consequences, known & unknown. In the end the balance was to prevent chaos & manage downside.

Think it would have caused more problems moving the card around after the final decs had been made on Monday and the rain that caused the issue with the X Country wasn't forecast at that point. Annoying, but don't think this one could have been avoided realistically
