#Georgia: A week after Zurab Japaridze, another opposition leader, Nika Melia, was arrested yesterday. Persecuting political figures and activists defies democratic values. All those detained for exercising fundamental rights must be released.

The new Foreign Agents Registration Act adds to the recent string of repressive legislation seeking to suppress independent voices in Georgia. Sweden stands firmly by 🇬🇪’s brave civil society and its impressive work for human rights and democracy.

Georgia: The politically motivated persecution & arrests of opposition leaders go against basic democratic values. These are authoritarian tactics, opposite of what is expected from an EU candidate country. Georgian Dream must stop weaponising the justice system.

The arrest of opposition voices is an attack at #Georgia’s democratic foundations, which are being eroded by the day. I stand with those fighting for a free & pluralistic 🇬🇪 society and call on the 🇬🇪 authorities to release all journalists, activists & those detained unjustly.
