[10 Dec 2024] Opening Remarks from Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at WHO media briefing: “We cannot talk about COVID in the past tense. “It’s still with us, it still causes acute disease and Long COVID, and it still kills. “The world might want to forget about COVID-19, but we cannot afford to.”

You may have heard of the 'tidal wave' of flu cases 'overwhelming hospitals' at the moment. Just so you know, there have been ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FOUR days out of the last 365 when there have been more people in hospital for Covid than there are with flu right now.

4. As such, a relatively low-cost intervention to reduce pressure on the system is to reduce airborne nosocomial infections. High-quality HEPA should be running at all times in all hospital areas, and FFP2 minimum required for all staff. We should know this by now. /end

This is such important messaging from Roy Lilley 💙 ⬇️ Even after all the evidence from the UK Covid-19 Inquiry, NOTHING has been done to ensure patients & healthcare workers are adequately protected from AIRBORNE pathogens in hospitals.

If you are unwell with any winter virus or COVID-19, staying at home to recover is usually the best option. Doing that also helps reduce transmission in the community. If you do need to go into an indoor setting, a well-fitting mask can help protect others around you. (1/2)

I regularly ask myself whether I'm right to be trying to avoid Covid infections. Situations evolve and change, so it's worth staying up to date on information.

My partner is an anaesthetist. He took a CO2 monitor into work this week; the air quality inside surgical theatres is probably the best on the planet. However, other areas of a hospital can have very poor air quality... 1/

Ruth Brooker gave one heck of a good presentation to a group of us academics at the University of Bristol this afternoon. Truly impressive and moving stuff. Plus she brought her own CO2 monitor and homemade Corsi box.

There is so much to digest in this video. I've been watching it on loop for 25 minutes. Fortunately they've put all of the receipts in a thread. Stunning.
