This swan was reported to us earlier today in Leeds, found with a plastic zip tie tight over her lower beak and tongue. Thankfully, the tie was easily removed and there was no lasting injury to the bird.

We were contacted at 8pm one evening last week by a concerned narrowboat owner, concerning a young swan found alone with a damaged wing at the side of a local Canal. The bird was swiftly rescued, and the injury continues to improve here in our care.

One of our rescuers collected this young hedgehog yesterday, found out during the day and not in great shape. Internal parasites have now been identified under the lense of our microscope and the animal is now being treated accordingly, including regular fluids.

First call of the year for our rescuers to a crash landed cygnet, on the road in the village of Strensall near York. Thankfully the bird escaped with no injuries despite the heavy landing, and has since been released.

It’s nearly 9pm and our rescuer has thankfully just managed to assist this swan in the darkness at Kings Road Lock, reported with a plastic bottle ring caught around the bird’s lower beak and tongue, and preventing the animal from feeding.

A member of the public spotted a problem with a cygnet at Horbury Bridge earlier today, found to be a barbed fishing lure caught in her flipper. Our rescuers were able to quickly attend and safely remove the tackle, before releasing the bird back to her grateful family.

A clumsy landing for this swan, rescued by Network Rail staff from railway tracks outside of Wakefield. The animal was initially taken to Chantry Vets, with our volunteer later collecting the animal for further care here at our base, where we expect a full recovery.

A cygnet was brought into us over the weekend from Frecheville Pond in Sheffield, having swallowed a length of fishing line. The tackle has since been successfully removed, and the bird continues with treatment and the complimentary all day buffet, in one of our care pens.
