Big thanks to Kostas Tzelepis from Cambridge Stem Cell Institute for visiting us at University of Sussex Sussex Life Sciences Sussex Blood Cancer Research and giving the final Biochemistry & Biomedicine @ University of Sussex seminar of the series. Fantastic talk with super exciting data and very grateful for the helpful input into several ongoing projects here.

Following on from our recent paper showing novel post-transcriptional roles for B-catenin in leukaemia cells, a very well done to Okan Sevim and Hyun Park for writing a superb review in Oncogene Journal summarising our current understanding of this field. nature.com/articles/s4138…

🗞️New publication alert🗞️ Drs Okan Sevim and Hyun Park from Sussex Life Sciences and BSMS in the Rhys Morgan review the current understanding around beta-catenin contribution to post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression out now at Oncogene Journal.

New paper led by Dr Eleanor Jayawant is on BlueSky 🎉 We review: - how computational biology is helping us understand lymphoma, - how machine learning and cell simulations make sense of vast amounts of data, - how models can personalise treatments to each person with lymphoma. portlandpress.com/biochemsoctran…

🗞️ New publication from the network 🗞️ Dr Dr Eleanor Jayawant is on BlueSky now working at the Prof Andrea Pepper Chris Pepper group in BSMS review the state of play in computational modelling of B-cell lymphomas, led by Simon Mitchell and now out at Portland Press Biochemical Society Transactions.

"We need to establish new targeted therapies that can replace or augment existing treatments" This afternoon we kicked off our treatment session with Prof Alex Tonks sharing his research investigating the role of ROS in AML. 👉bit.ly/4lyMY9Y #bloodcancersymposium25

Very pleasing to see so many Sussex researchers in the new Blood Cancer UK Blood Cancer UK Research research strategy Accelerating Progress document!

Last month, final year PhD student Aimilia Vareli from Simon Mitchell lab in BSMS presented her research at the annual European Hematology Association congress 2025 in Milan, and has been awarded an EHA Research Mobility Grant to progress her work with collaborators at Harvard University university 👏

Nearing the end/completed your PhD? Interested in leukaemia research? Want to join a new and exciting PI as they establish their group at Sussex Life Sciences Then this 3y post doc post with newly minted MRC CDA Fellow & Blood Cancer UK Research funded Dr Jasmeen Oberoi could be for you 👇

New paper led by Aimilia Vareli out now. nature.com/articles/s4141… The lymphoma microenvironment stops BH3-mimetics from working. In vitro/vivo/silico, we find that inhibition of NFκB makes BH3-mimetics great again. 1/🧵 Sussex Blood Cancer Research Sussex Cancer Research Centre Leukaemia UK BSMS #UKRIFLF

🗞️ New network publication! 📰 Final year PhD student Aimilia Vareli in BSMS in Simon Mitchell lab publishes her doctoral studies in Springer Nature #CellDeathDisease showing inhibition of NFkB signalling increases sensitivity to BH3 mimetics in the lymphoma microenvironment.
