📈 'Since the introduction of the condition of funding, there has been a 94-per cent increase in those achieving a standard pass at GCSE English and maths in 16-19 education' Sarah Waite feweek.co.uk/we-must-secure…

In this policy note, Paul Bivand and Mark Corney set out links between Skills England and the skills system, and the Labour Market Advisory Board and employment support system. They write on the need for an under-25s jobs and full-time education plan. Read here:

Looking forward to Value of lifelong learning debate in the Lords today. Hope the discussion is broader than the HE Loan entitlement- lifelong learning should be for everyone, all ages, stages and settings - we need a cultural change Jacqui Smith parliament.uk/business/news/…

My excitement is short lived. My concern was that the debate would be all about the LLE loan but it was wider. The Lords at their best. However it has surfaced that DFE has cut Adult Skills budget for 25/26 So here we are again. Jacqui Smith

😱 With literacy and numeracy skills only going to become more important over time, axing functional skills requirements for adult apprentices is a big mistake, warns Stephen Evans of Learning and Work Institute buff.ly/40S27u7

Robert Halfon I’m worried about the reduced minimum duration & removal of functional skills too. A decision made with the right motivation. But lowering standards only gives the false illusion of raising opportunity. We should focus on how to make things better with high aspirations for all.

Worth a read in FE Week by Heather Akehurst OBE 💜 & Stephen Evans on the importance of Functional Skills for Apprenticeships 👉49% of adults have numeracy skills below primary school children 👉OECD show apprenticeships in England are limited to functional skills courses lasting

FE Week I don’t agree with the decision, But curious—where will the surplus funding go? If apprenticeships drop from 12 to 8 months, that’s a 33% cost saving. Add removal of provider costs for English & maths, thats a big funding pot to redistribute to adults who need the qualifications.

DFE has already announced cutting the adult skills budget by 6% which means there will be a 100,000 less places, if they put back funding for 60,000 there is still a deficit of 40,000. Giving with one hand and taking with the other. Jacqui Smith #speakup4adulted
