Many people believe that, with enough self-awareness/therapy/mindfulness, they should be able to control their own brain and/or emotions. This can lead to a lot of guilt/shame when we can't achieve this unrealistic level of control

You know what's an accommodation that we don't talk about enough? Multi-modal communication. Just because a conversation started over text shouldn't mean it has to stay there if that's less accessible. Communicate in the most accessible form for you, and let others do the same

The palpable disappointment when I want to share an interesting fun fact about something tangential to the conversation and they already know it. 😭 Followed by the giddy excitement when they "Yes, and..." my fact with an even more interesting or tangential one 🤩

So many autistic people are trained into hypervigilance by people in their lives who thing you can "just try harder" your way through struggles with social cues

ADHD and autistic people do not tend to "relax" the same way that non-ADHD allistic people do. In fact, passive relaxation can actually be understimulating for many of us, which is dysregulating and can make burnout, overwhelm, or big emotions even harder to deal with
