Ben Newmark GCSE history has always been the equivalent of sprinting a marathon. Huge content range, not enough time & if you don’t literally tell the pupils the stuff they’ll probably fail as an obscure question inevitably will come up. Challenging

Hugely delighted that The Duston School has retained its Gold Investors in People status and been accredited for our wellbeing approaches.

Want to …

Ensure your school is unsafe

Fail safeguarding

Haemorrhage staff

Make kids feel unsafe

Lose numbers on roll

Allow abhorrent behaviours to go unchecked

Then don’t suspend/PEX

It's amazing how often organisations with an interest in exclusions seem genuinely to believe that an exclusion is the first sign of any issues in a child's life rather than a result of many! And make no effort to investigate any further.

Oracy….

Let’s not be fooled, it’s not new.

It needs to be sensibly built into the curriculum & not become the next cargo cult. That would be poor but I could see it happening. It needs to be authentic & genuinely part & parcel of what we do. Simple routines are often best.

Knowledge, whilst crucial, means nothing if it’s simply a set of disjointed facts. It needs to have a hook to hang against & give the knowledge meaning.

The curriculum is like a story; it should have a clear beginning, middle and end. You need to know what you want pupils to be able to do by the end of any topic, term, year & key stage

A useful listen before returning to work following Easter (unless you’re already back…. But useful nevertheless).

Sam Strickland Behaviour has now become so different it's scary. A lot of this if not all is due to what happens outside of school& parents approach to behaviour. Children are being told they can do no wrong. The education system will never solve this as it is too big a problem. Poor teachers.
