Thinking of Jack Nicholson today, on his 87th birthday. Still the most electric, magnetic presence there’s ever been on the silver screen. A gift to us. What I’d give to see him come back for one last rodeo, much as I know it won’t happen. A well earned retirement, what a career.

All of these films premiered in 2015, all to glowing reviews, all with healthy box-office returns. And in their own ways, all utterly charming and moving.

I need this very specific genre to make a comeback asap.

Civil War on track for a $25m+ domestic opening weekend is fucking THRILLING to see for a non-IP, primarily female-led, bold and confronting film. Big credit to the smart marketing campaign. Whether the film is your bag or not, this is a sensational result for cinema.

Completely broken by Baby Reindeer on Netflix. Richard Gadd bears his soul in a vice-gripping, viciously funny, deeply upsetting cathartic excavation of his past traumas. Unflinchingly, painfully truthful. Those final two episodes in particular, knocked me for six.

Denise Gough gives a titanic performance, the best I’ve ever seen on stage and the definition of a tour-de-force. Absolutely unmissable. The opportunity to see this again is so very special.

Mary & George: Pulpy, sumptuous, very horny. Julianne Moore sporting a British accent for the first time since A Single Man, and deliciously so. James I uttering the line “fuck me alive again” to Nicholas Galitzine, playing the prettiest twink to have ever existed. I loved it.

It's one thing there being a crystal meth bust in County Kerry involving the Sinaloa cartel, but the name of the half-Kerryman half-Mexican mastermind is everything you could ever dream of, far beyond the wildest limits of fiction.

When did it become normalised to take pictures at the theatre during the performance? It’s rife lately. Distracting and disrespectful to the actors and audience.

The grim thing is that normally most in Westminster wouldn’t have batted an eyelid at this. It’s only because Brianna’s mother was in Parliament it’s being picked up. Trans people have slowly become the butt of political jokes under several PMs. This should be a wake up call.
