2 x Emperor Moth to the EMP lure this afternoon in St Mellion. The first arrived within 5 minutes of putting out the lure, at 16:00, and the second at 16:15. The first one shot off as soon as it realised it had been duped. The second I managed to net, photograph & quickly release

St. Mellion cont. Some signs of migration with 1 Udea ferrugalis (Rusty-dot), 3 Dark Sword-grass, 4 Angle Shades and 10 Silver Y (all in the ni lure trap). Best of the rest were 5 Elachista canapennella, Small White Wave, Common Wave, 2 Golden-rod Pug, 2 Small Phoenix... 3/4

St Mellion cont. Nine species were new for the year - Sandy Carpet, Rivulet, Dark-barred Twin-spot Carpet, Grey-pine Carpet, Foxglove Pug, Purple Bar, Clouded Silver, Yellow-barred Brindle and Clouded Bordered Brindle. 2/4

A brilliant night in St Mellion, Cornwall, with 118 moths of 46 species recorded. The highlight was a new for garden Semioscopis steinkellneriana, which looks to be a new 10km square for the species... 1/4

Moth species taken at light in St Mellion this year now stands at 112. Orthosias at the top in terms of numbers (as you'd expect). A couple of immigrant species in the top 4.

Best night of the year in St Mellion with 85 moths of 30 species. 2 new species for the garden: Esperia sulphurella & Puss Moth. New for year Small White Wave, Common Wave, Common Carpet, Scalloped Hazel & Iron Prominent. Poss migrants Dark Sword-grass, 9 Silver Y, 3 Angle Shades

Just found around 30 Early Purple Orchid flower stalks on the verge opposite the house. Can't believe I missed them before!

Just 11 moths of 5 species in the wind and rain last night. 2 Dark Sword-grass and the first White Ermine of the year worth a mention. St Mellion VC2.

Best of the rest in one MV, up to 22:00 was 2 Common Pug (new for the year), Water Carpet, Flame Shoulder and Dyseriocrania subpurpurella. 9 moths of 8 species. St Mellion.

Dark Sword-grass (Agrotis ipsilon), to light on evening of 25/4. The total for this species now stands at 222 for the year. St Mellion, Cornwall (VC2).

Only 16 moths of 10 species in two MV traps last night in St Mellion. Dyseriocrania subpurpurella was new for the garden (assuming it is one as it has orange spots rather than purple!). Also, Garden Carpet, plus Frosted Green, Common Marbled Carpet, Great Prominent, 4 Muslin Moth

Only 9 moths of 7 species up to 10pm last night. Purple Thorn was new for the year plus a nicely marked Frosted Green. St Mellion.

26 moths of 12 species in St Mellion last night. Highlights were new for garden Pseudoswammerdamia combinella, plus a couple of likely Elachista cannapenella. Best of the rest were Shoulder Stripe, 5 Brindled Beauty, Lunar Marbled Brown, 5 Muslin Moth and Delicate.
