The Small Mottled Willow (Spodoptera exigua) recorded on the evening of 6th July was the 400th recorded in the St Mellion garden since 11th June 2025. To put that into perspective, I've recorded 179 specimens at all sites (incl many visits to the coast) over the previous 42 years

Moth of the night in St Mellion was Hellula undalis (Old World Webworm), which was found resting on top of the rain shield of the actinic trap at 22:45. I was sure I caught a glimpse of a Striped Hawk-moth just after, however it was nowhere to be seen this am & won't be recorded.

Wildlife enthusiasts I need your advice! I often use Merlin Bird ID on my walks, but there was this quite loud noise coming from a hedgerow… what do we think it could be? Bird? Rodent? The app seemed confused! Let me know your thoughts! #wildlifeID #wildlife Carl Bovis

I’m so happy to share the finished drawing - “The Dream Rock Pool”! 🦀🌊 This piece was a real challenge but I’m so pleased with how it came out, it would be incredible if you could share it far and wide! #rockpooling #rockpools #marinebiology #wildlifeart #oceanlover

35 species in St Mellion, SE Cornwall, on a cold and clear night. The temperature dropped to a chilly 8.1c at 1am, rising to 11.1c at 6am. This presumably aberrant Flounced Rustic (Luperina testacea) caused some initial excitement when I turned over the egg-box
