When I look at people who are successful in their profession, they seem to really enjoy their work.  Rather than trudging along, going through the motions… their work actually energizes them.

I am reminded that there is more to all of us than we put out there on social media.  We all have stories.  We all have unspoken joys and unspoken struggles.  It’s good to be mindful of this reality as we interact with our students and colleagues.

Most of what is true of the kids in the school… is also true of the adults. We all feel insecure at times. We all want to be noticed. We all hope to be successful. We all have been hurt by the unkind words of others. We all work harder when friends encourage us.

An important piece for superintendents.

It’s good when central office admins remember what it’s like to work in a school.  It’s good when school admins remember what it’s like to be a teacher.  It’s good when teachers remember what it’s like to be a student.  The students… they’re just trying to get through their day.

I appreciate people who are willing to change their mind.  It reflects intellectual humility, courage, and honesty.  It reflects a willingness to consider new evidence, new ideas, and new ways of thinking.  We need more of that.
